An integral part of a vast development project in Comporta, Portugal, the project designed by AW2 finds a balance between contemporary architecture and local materials. The beauty of the landscape requires an architecture that can create an exchange with the surrounding nature. Based on the principle of an architecture of volumes, the villas are grouped around a central column that includes the entrance and the stairway, giving the homes a strong identity while allowing natural ventila- tion of the living spaces. The bedrooms and principle rooms are placed around this axis, most of them overlooking the dunes and gulf that make up the view. The attention given to the exchanges between the interior and exterior encourages direct contact with nature. The colours and natural materials – wood, stone, clay and straw – strengthen the feeling of belonging to the site and underline its richness.
