With new VR technology, The Future Perfect offers its New York visitors a taste of Casa Perfect, the gallery’s Los Angeles residential outpost. On view in both virtual reality (images 1, 2 & 3) and in person is a special showcase of glassworks by Seattle-based artist John Hogan. The vitreous presentation reveals the talent’s first foray into furniture application while demonstrating his transcendent mastery of light, colour, monolithic form and subtle texture. Among the works on show is the Ripples series of tables that combine glassblowing and cold-working techniques. Evoking the movement of water, these pieces push the limits of proportion. Projected virtually but also shown in the flesh, Reflect table comprises a cluster of mirror glass balls that provide support for a clear glass table top disc. Presented poolside, through simulation, the Eru and Lull lens sculptures are filled with water as to simulate the characteristics of magnification; in different spectrums of orange and blue.
