For the Salone del Mobile this year, Finnish wood specialists Nikari continue the success of the popular “December” chair with the launch of a new version of the XL with armrests. Designed by Jasper Morrison and Wataru Kumano, the chair originally launched in 2012 as the conclusion of the year-long “12 Designs for Nature” project. Like the “December XL”, which was introduced in 2014, the new chair is available in ash or oak, with the option of canvas or leather for the seat and backrest.

The chair was exhibited alongside some of the manufacturer’s newest products: the “Marfa” stool, designed by Swedish trio Claesson Koivisto Rune, and the “Linea” sofa, designed by Jenni Roininen, the creative director of Nikari. A number of pieces from the 2012 collection rounded out the presentation at the Salone, alongside classic pieces by Alvar Aalto, Rudi Merz, and Kari Virtanen.

The craftsmanship behind Nikari has long attracted customers and designers since Virtanen, a master carpenter and self-taught designer, founded the company in 1967. From his collaboration with Aalto to the brand’s latest offerings, the Fiskars-based manufacturer maintains a high standard of quality for its sustainable wood products.
