A luxury hotel that resembles a village (‘Phum Baitang’, in Khmer): this is the idea that guided the creation of this ensemble of 40 suites located near Siem Reap in Cambodia. Inspired by traditional Cambodian country houses, the pavilions – resting on pilings – are grouped around rice fields and situated within lush and extensive gardens. Within this unconventional hotel a feeling of calm and intimacy reigns, reflected in each suite. The central living room, characterised by its very high ceilings, offers direct contact with the surrounding landscape.

The project is characterised by the systematic use of traditional materials, employed in all their forms. Wood, used in everything from the structure, carpentry, terraces and floor finishings, to the window frames and shutters, gives the site an identity, while demonstrating the desire of the architects to use bio-sourced materials.

Outside, the terra cotta and palm frond roofing makes the pavilions disappear within their setting, and outlines the definition of a true luxury in which time and space take on a real dimension, full of meaning and culture.
