Japanese artist Yoshiro Kimura is known for pottery glazed with deep hues of blue that remind of his love for the Mediterranean Sea. On his ceramics, acquamarine glaze called hekiyu shifts from nearly transparent shallow water blue to tones of dark sapphire blue. The artist also creates an effect of waves on ceramics by using a rippling decorative technique called renmon.

Kimura was originally to become a zen monk, but he changed his mind and became a ceramist while travelling around the world and falling in love with the deep blue of the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey. The artist, born in 1946, lives and works in Hiroshima, Japan.

The exhibition of Yoshiro Kimura at Galerie Pierre Marie Giraud in Brussels consists of 14 pieces, which represent a year of work by the artist. •
