The exhibition takes place from April 12-17 at Galleria Suzy Shammah, a contemporary art gallery in central Milan, and works together with Shin Suzuki, an artist who as his life’s work has taken hundreds of photographs that explore the question of what it means for something to be “daily”. When presenting furniture in galleries we present it as if it was an object in a space that is special and outside our daily experience. Yet furniture is, a device that is incorporated into our lives that is used in a practical manner. Karimoku New Standard asks the question whether it is necessary to propose a new type of furniture that is able to broaden the way we imagine our living spaces. Shin Suzuki has captured on film fragments from daily experiences and among the photos shown on the walls of the gallery will be places for which any viewer is able to have a sense of sympathy. By showing these photos together with Karimoku New Standard’s furniture an experimental exhibition is created where visitors are able to feel a sense of intimacy and become immersed in their imaginations about how they live together with furniture.
