For its third participation in Design Miami, Spazio Nobile is pleased to present Jardim Botânico, a selection of five large-scale painted and glazed stoneware sculptures by ceramic artist Bela Silva. These works were part of the artist’s major solo exhibition “Caminho Tropical,” which took place in Brazil last spring at MAC Niterói, Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Presented over six-days in the garden of Hôtel de Maisons, the iconic 18th century mansion in Paris’s 7th arrondissement. The Hôtel de Maisons is the site of the 3rd edition of Design Miami/Paris event. This is the first European presentation of these ceramic pieces.

The large-scale vessels and animal sculptures were all inspired a trip to Brazil last year, in preparation for her exhibition last Spring at the MAC. A riot of colours: blues, greens yellows, oranges, that she saw in the wildlife in Brazil, the plants and trees, birds, snakes, and other animals, are found across these decorative and patterned sculptural objects.  As Silva notes, “I don’t know if God exists, but if He does, He was wide awake when he created Brazil”.
