My Crafts by Didier Fiúza Faustino
Didier Fiúza Faustino shows 16 years of his anti-ergonomic chairs at gallery Michel Rein in Paris until December 17.
Comprising ten chairs, the My Crafts exhibition by Didier Fiúza Faustino is about uncertain seating and denied commodities.
Faustino works on the cusp of art and architecture, inverting notions of space and sculpture. For him, barriers are opportunities for contortions, and the forms of chairs are modalities for the body whereupon Western postural conventions and our addiction to armchairs demands interrogation. By mishandling bodies through his anti-ergonomic chairs, Faustino reflects on design theory, as well as on his own practice. The ten chairs offer a retrospective of milestones in Faustino’s career, snapshots from his spatial work that were then integrated into installations and building sites over the past 16 years.
My Crafts shows until December 17. This is Faustino’s third solo exhibition at gallery Michel Rein in the past five years.
