Ettore Sottsass, Friedman Benda
Opening its eighth season on 10 September, Friedman Benda presents Ettore Sottsass 1955-1969 – the fourth in a series of show dedicated to the revolutionary Italian architect-cum-designer. For this edition, the design gallery focuses on Sottsass’ early career – furniture, ceramics, textiles, lighting and photography never seen before in the United States. Displayed in a domestic context, this show is the first in Friedman Benda’s recently reconfigured Chelsea space. This exhibition looks at the Italian architect-cum-designers oeuvre prior to radical design, a period in which he developed a his own language. Among the works on views, Olivetti bookshelves towers with slatted rosewood cabinets.
Ettore Sottsass 1955-1969 runs from 10 September to 17 October 2015: 515 West 26th Street, New York
