It’s flexible, it’s ambiguous and it’s waiting for you at this year’s IMM Cologne.

What is it you ask? ‘Das House’ is a full-scale residential home simulation that occupies a monumental 180 square meter space each year at the interior furnishings fair. This year’s “house” is designed by the Rotterdam-based Australian couple Joel & Kate Booy who make up the design studio Truly Truly

In the tradition of Das Haus which has been running since 2012, IMM cologne invited the multidisciplinary design studio to image how a house of the near future could look and function. Inspired by their graphic design training, Truly Truly paired the house back to simple elements and a limited color palette, like a Rietveld chair. A wall of plants conceals what seems to be a kitchen and visitors may find themselves questioning whether the table is for dining or working. The designers suggest that perhaps it is for both, with functions being hinted at rather than delineated to create a fluid and dynamic home environment. Unfamiliar forms merge public and private spaces. Textures and materials have been carefully selected to make a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Of their invitation to reimagine the home Truly Truly says: “We’re delighted to blaze a trail for inquisitive design with our version of ‘Das Haus’. We see the project as an opportunity to question some of the typical ways our living environments operate and to work up alternatives. The space that we’re developing for ‘Das Haus’ will be unfamiliar yet inviting at the same time – in a balance between abstraction and warmth.”

In addition to the Das Haus installation, the interior furnishings fair has a breadth of products, interiors, activities and ideas lined up for their 2019 edition with over 1200 exhibitors from across the globe.
