Lisbon Design Week 2025
From 28 May to 1 June, the third edition of Lisbon Design Week (LDW) celebrates design, craft and creativity, promising five days of design experiences to explore.
Lisbon Design Week (LDW) is an annual cultural event that showcases the vibrant creative community of artists, designers and craftspeople found across Portugal. The 5-day event spotlights emerging and established talent, Portuguese and international makers living in Lisbon as well as throughout the country, and features special exhibitions, collaborations and events. This year, LDW will include over 95 participants, including studios, brands and shops and more than 250 creatives. It is partnering again with MUDE Museu do Design, with the Young Design Generation Open Call Exhibition, an initiative that invites emerging creatives to present their work. This year saw 157 submissions, from which a jury selected 20 pieces that will be exhibited in the design museum. The Hotel Locke de Santa Joana is this year’s official Cultural Hub and Hospitality Partner. In addition to hosting a special exhibition in its 17th century building, it will be the site of live podcast sessions, open to the public, made in collaboration with Portugal Manual, a network of artisans and artists.
For its third edition, LDW is expanding into new neighborhoods, including Ajuda/Belém/Restelo and Beato/Marvila, reinforcing the event’s commitment to the city and its creative scene. It is also expanding online, thanks to an interactive digital platform and app that allows users to plan their itinerary in real time. The platform, created by ABM Studio, was designed to support LDW, but will also serve as an ongoing resource for design related content in the city throughout the year. This year, graphic designer Bernardo Berga was invited to create the poster and visual identity of the 2025 LDW.
Lisbon Design Week was first established by Michèle Fajtmann, who among other things, was the founder of From My City, an agency established in the UK in 2010 that creates unique events with a focus on the city and themes lined to the arts. She has lived in Brussels, London, New York, Warsaw and Lisbon and is particularly interested in the intersection of art and culture within public spaces in urban communities. For LDW’s 3rd edition, she is joined by a team of like-minded professionals who share her passion for Portuguese design and Lisbon’s creative scene.
Select highlights from the event include: Sobre Mesa, an exhibition co-curated by MUT Design and João Xara at the Aires Mateus Archive. It will include objects from over 20 designers and explore the theme of lingering at the table after a meal; The Chairman exhibition – 15 years of chairs by Marco Sousa Santos a Branca Lisboa showroom, which traces 15-years of this notable Portuguese designer’s career; Perspective & Matter exhibition by Luso Collective, in Marvila, explores the tension between perception and materiality in contemporary creation; The Echo of Raw Materials, at Roca Lisboa Gallery, is a group show of 12 Portuguese designers and curated by Wesley Sacardi; and Materia, an exhibition, site-specific installation and collective launch at the concept shop Banema.
