Stellar Works: Unveiling Atelier Parisian
Design company Stellar Works with creative directors Neri & Hu bring a collection of over 20 previously unseen designs to Maison & Objet Paris on 22–26 Jan 2016.
Shanghai-based design company Stellar Works unveils a collection of over 20 new, previously unseen items at interiors and design trade fair Maison & Objet in Paris. The launch is a continuum of a yearlong close collaboration with the brand’s creative directors Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu of Neri & Hu Design and Research Office. Neri & Hu has recently been awarded with a Designer of the Year Awards by Maison & Objet in 2015 and Wallpaper magazine in 2014.
The new pieces for the collection are designed both by the creative directors Rossana Hu and Lyndon Neri and guest designers such as Danish design studios OeO and Space Copenhagen and designers Nic Graham and Shuwa Tei. The new collections consist of Neri & Hu’s Ming chairs and small tables that revisit the historic decorative arts of China and bring the influences to contemporary furniture; Utility series that combine practicality and industrial influences to luxurious materials and refined finishes and a Chambre Collection of beds that transform from bed to several other functions.
The clean-lined Dowry cabinets, also designed by Neri & Hu, are rooted in the tradition of the dowry, which is passed from one generation to the next in the moment of marriage. The cabinets and drawers can be customised with a wide variety of materials and finishes, which allows the collection to be tailor-made to suit a variety of settings.
Tables and chairs in the Rén Collection by Space Copenhagen take a distinctly Nordic philosophy and incorporate craft techniques and details from design traditions of Japan and China. Arita Vessels and Arita Liquid, a ceramic set of seven bowls and plates by Neri & Hu, derive from Japanese craft traditions by combining contemporary forms to Arita glazing technique that dates back 400 years.
Taking influence from traditional Windsor form, the Exchange chair by Crème has a both contemporary and traditional feeling. Customized backs of the chairs can be substituted in to fit a variety of designs. James Collection, instead, is an understated exploration of modern masculinity. Both bold and defined and light and elegant, the furniture in the collection subtly borrows from the world of performance cars, which can be seen in the warm and tactile metal, walnut wood and sable-tone matte leather of the pieces. •
