Glassworks by Matteo Gonet
While the collectible design world is typically as obsessed with authorship as the art market, it is often the craftspeople whose hands shape the material. In the case of glassblower Matteo Gonet, artists and designers such as Philippe Parreno, Ettore Sottsass, Andrea Branzi, and the Bouroullec brothers come to him not only for his hands but also for his lungs. The Basel-based craftsman is renowned for working in monumental scale, entrusted with producing pieces such as Mathieu Lehanneur’s chandeliers and Jean-Michel Othoniel’s sculptures.
Paris’s ToolsGalerie is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of Gonet’s work outside of Switzerland. Glassworks by Matteo Gonet offers a brief survey of his projects, seven in all: “Vasels”, “Giant Glass Marbles”, “Migrations”, “Larmes de Mercure”, “Carottages Géologiques”, and “Objets Rituels”.
Glassworks by Matteo Gonet will be on view from 7 November – 28 January at ToolsGalerie, 1 Rue Montalembert, 75007 Paris. For more information, refer to the ToolsGalerie website.
