Kyoto Contemporary Project at Ateliers de Paris
Through January 31, 2015, designers and craftsmen from Kyoto will take over the Ateliers de Paris and work with resident creators to mount a new exhibition. This event results from the Kyoto Contemporary project, launched in January 2014, an international cooperation program forging an intercultural exchange between French and Japanese designers and brings out original collaborations in the field of creation.
The Kyoto Contemporary project is an initiative from the Ateliers de Paris to create together and draw inspiration from each other. With support from both the cities of Paris and Kyoto, the project was prepared over the course of many exchanges and visits between Ateliers de Paris and Japanese craftsmen. These meetings have accounted for many rediscovered manufacturing techniques, sometimes ancestral.
Paris and Kyoto are both known for their historical and cultural heritage. Kyoto strengthen its particularity thanks to the knowledge of its artisans. This kind of collaboration allows cultural enrichment for both partners. That’s why, since January 2014, Kyoto and Paris have sought-out to strengthen their ties by launching a cooperation and development program. And that is how Kyoto Contemporary‘s Project was born.
Kyoto Contemporary runs at Ateliers de Paris till January 20-31, 2015.
