Established in London in 1989 and based in İstanbul since 2006, AVCIARCHITECTS is a rather new İstanbulite. The company’s founder, Selçuk Avcı, who returned to his homeland after long years abroad, has the privilege to both have an outsider’s perspective and at the same time act as a local in this country where his roots are. Selçuk distributes his time between İstanbul, London and Ljubljana, leading a nomadic life. Perhaps it is this relative sense of “rootlessness” which always makes the “geniusloci” of a place a central focus in his work.

Among other projects AVCI ARCHITECTS has recently designed a mixed-use development project in the newly booming finance district of the city, Bağcılar. The building separates from existing typologies with its integration of urban texture into the building at ground level, thus aiming to create permeability and a vivid street life.
