Brussels Design September

The 18th edition of Brussels Design September takes place between September 12-30, featuring work by 300 designers in over 100 design events across the city. The event highlights the diverse creative talent in the country, and looks at current and emerging trends, collaborations and ideas in the design and creative communities. Including exhibitions and events in galleries, museums, showrooms studios, shops and more, Design September aims to emphasize the central role of design in creating the city of tomorrow, where aesthetics and functionality converge to meet contemporary challenges.

A series of central themes create a framework for this comprehensive program: ‘Art & Design in Belgium’ explores the intersection between art and design in the country, which has a long history dating back over a century; Select highlights in this program include: ‘Salon d’Automne’, a presentation of 30 artists at Spazio Nobile Gallery; ‘Rafistolages by Studiolow’ at the Design Museum Brussels, which is a material and historical investigation into the issue of care and its economic, social and anthropological implications; a ‘Made in Belgium’ exhibition at Objects with Narratives and ‘Source Material’ at the Dominican Hotel, on view through November 3rd.

‘Renewal: Designing for Conscious Lifestyles’ examines how design solutions can support and inspire conscious living, mindfulness and a deeper connection to nature and with others. Highlights include presentations of new work by designers including Jielt Gregoire, Ariane Van Dievoet, Savvy, Chryssa Kotoula and Atelier Cru, among others.

‘Urban Transformation’, explores inclusive design and resiliency in design, looking at innovative design solutions that easy urban life; Highlights include CODE/CONNECT, an outdoor seating system made with recycled plastic designed to encourage social connection through its versatile range of curling shapes; the Hugo wheelchair, an innovative design to facilitate movement for mobility challenged children; and Shanti by Inner Design, a collection of furniture that encourages moments of pause and reflection.

‘Collectives, Craftsmanship and Social Design’ focuses on combining artisanal know-how and creativity; ‘ Commerce Design Brussels’ is a commercial design competition, with 11 winners selected by a jury will be on view for the public to choose their favorite through online voting.
