Casino Luxembourg Forum d’Art Contemporain in Luxembourg reopens with a new look. The reopening marks the twentieth anniversary of the opening of the art centre.

Along the renovation that temporarily closed the art centre for the first months of the year, Casino Luxembourg has renewed its exhibition design by destruction of the previous white cube system. The renewed centre now has a new layout with a smoother circulation and a new café and a restaurant.

The centre will reopen with installations and a programme by artists Lara Almarcegui, David Brognon and Stéphanie Rollin, and Claudia Passeri. Under the direction of artistic director Kevin Muhlen, Casino Luxembourg has invited Spanish artist Lara Almarcegui to take over the first floor of the casino. Known for her vast spatial installations, she reflects on the destruction and rubble involved in the redevelopment of the exhibition rooms on the first floor of the centre.

Program of the BlackBox, a space devoted to contemporary video art, begins with artist duo David Brognon and Stéphanie Rollin’s series of video works brought back from their recent trips to Israel. The BlackBox will be complemented by a space entirely devoted to the video documentation of exhibitions presented at the Casino. Interviews and documentaries produced with artists currently exhibiting or those who have exhibited at the Casino will be presented there.

In addition, Casino Luxembourg has invited artist Claudia Passeri to propose a project associated with the redevelopment of the new spaces. Her luminous neon work Zeitgeist – Karl Cobain, which is presented at the art centre’s café, brings together two very distant ideologies that relate to the original building of the Casino building and the original opening of the Luxembourg Casino art centre through phrases and voices of Karl Marx and Kurt Cobain.

The opening week also includes a series of events including the project Public Collection by artists Alexandra Pirici and Manuel Pelmus – a group of performers will embody and revive iconic moments in the history of art. •
