DOMOTEX Presents New Flatweaves
As perennial contenders for the Carpet Design Awards at DOMOTEX, the long tradition of flatwoven (or tapestery-woven) carpets and textiles remains as relevant as ever today. For generations, weavers all over the world have developed signature styles with the age-old technique. From the Anatolian kilim to the Navajo rug, flatweaves are collectively characterized by geometric color blocks that emerge from the warp and weft.
Historically used for transport and protection, flatweaves remain popular as decorations and — if their strong showing at DOMOTEX is any indication — especially floor coverings. Among the exhibitors at the tradeshow, Hamburg-based Naziri produces Iranian kilims with simple tribal patterns apropos contemporary interiors, while New York-based Rug & Kilim is known for its award-winning Marta Stripe, which was inspired by Swedish folk art. Other notable flatweave producers at DOMOTEX include Werner Weber, Edelgrund, and Zollanvari.
DOMOTEX, the floor coverings tradeshow, will take place from 14–17 January 2017 in Hannover, Germany.
