Gallery All: Collectible China
Transcending East and West, Gallery All backs designers exploring the middle ground between craft and technology.
Between Beijing and Los Angeles, Gallery All plinths experimental designs by top Chinese and international talents. With cutting-edge production facilities on both continents, the platform offers its designers a more holistic approach. Fostering a dialogue between East and West, Gallery All represents Naihan Li, Zhoujie Zhang, Aranda/Lasch, Janne Kyttanen, Chin-Hua Lin and You-De Chen through biannual exhibitions; mounted by external curators. Co-founded by Yu Wang and Xiao Lu, the gallery focuses on the challenges of structural limitation and new technologies.
At Last month’s Collective Design fair in New York, the platform showcased just that; works that straddle the realms of handcrafted fabrication and 3D-printing. Zhang employs digital algorithms to transform a normally soft brass composite in supportable Split, Spider, Heart and Bow Tie chairs. Kyttanen’s Metsidian series physically and metaphorically marks a transition – or movement between – prehistory and the future. ‘Volcanic’ material blends into a matrix-like structure. Railing series by Aranda/Lasch employs the historical innovation of bent tunes to explore the essential frame of a seat. With a defined taste and mandate, Gallery All is one to watch on the limited edition scene.
