French designer Hervé Van Der Straeten’s collection ‘Emergence’ consists of 32 pieces of furniture, mirrors and lighting fixtures. The pieces of the collection are made by Van Der Straeten’s workshops and cabinetmakers, and simultaneously respect traditional technical skills of the makers and the conceptual freedom of the designer.

‘Emergence’ is an investigation to formation of matter and form. In terms of matter, Van Der Straeten uses and combines natural materials, be it mineral, vegetal or animal, in the collection. In form, he applies origami-style folds that transform a flat surface to bring volume.

The exhibit is Van Der Straeten’s tenth exhibition, and it also marks the 15th anniversary of the gallery. On the same occasion, he invites a Paris-based visual artist Jérôme Robbe for a presentation of recent and original works at the gallery. ‘Emergence’ is a dialogue of works of the designer and the visual artist. •
