Iittala debuts Tanssi – translating as dance in Finnish – a new tableware collection clad in illustrations by London-based Finnish artist Klaus Haapaniemi. Today, the famous Finnish glass factory celebrates generations of essential objects that it has produced to enrich daily life. Knowing the importance Finish society puts on quality, aesthetics and functionality. That why reason why Iittala holds fast to these fundamentals while vying to be part of sustainable interior design.

The Tanssi collection features pattern inspired by visual designs Klaus Haapaniemi originally developed for the Finnish National Opera’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen – written by Czech composer Leoš Janáček. The sad yet beautiful story explores the co-existence of animals, humans and the eternal cycle of life and comes alive in Haapaniemi’s rich tableware design – shapes orginally created by Finnish designer Heikki Orvola. For this reason, Tanssi introduces mythology into everyday tableware. It makes a good addition to any established Iittala collection – working well with basic pieces such as Teema, or the everyday Kartio glasses. In addition to the ceramic pieces, the Tanssi range can also be found in textile applications, bringing this story alive within domestic interior. In this collection, Klaus Haapaniemi shows different shades of brown, grey & red and makes a perfect match with Iittala’s new glass colour Desert. Nostalgic brown is inspired by hot summers in childhood and Iittala’s 1950’s glass ranges. Available in the Aalto collection from January, Desert is also available for the Kastehelmi bowl and votive.

Here is a video capturing this beautiful story:
