Kelly Hoppen Home in Shanghai
British interior designer Kelly Hoppen has opened a home store in Shanghai with a 100-piece retrospective collection reinvigorated with sumptuous materials and finishes.
Since designing four show flats for One Shenzhen Bay last year, Kelly Hoppen has become even more sought after in China. Now she has opened her first Kelly Hoppen Home store in Shanghai, with further stores anticipated in Beijing, Hangzhou and Shenzhen.
With 40-years of experience, the British interior designer’s signature neutral tones and clean lines are ideal for the ‘readymade luxury’ expected in rising Asia. The store has been launched with a retrospective collection of 100 of Hoppen’s pieces that have been reinvigorated with opulent materials. These include new finishes in metal – including rose gold, nickel, bronze, brass and stainless steel – as well as smoked glass, wood, and coloured lacquers. Plush velvets, rich leathers and quality linens add to the tactility.
“I was able to let my imagination run free and design pieces that I had been dreaming about for years,” said Hoppen, who used her tenth book, House of Hoppen published in 2016, as a resource to curate the collection. “I am so happy with the success of the collection – every single piece is a testament to timeless elegance.”
Hoppen goes on to comment that the Asian market is redefining commercial interior design with its meticulous demand for a level of quality usually reserved for private commissions. Going above and beyond the usual standards, Asia is currently setting the global standards in luxury, she believes.
