Making a Difference Exhibition at Red Dot Museum Essen
3D printing has been around for some three decades now, but only recently has the technology become entered the public imagination as a potentially revolutionary innovation. Indeed, Belgian company Materialise celebrated its 25th anniversary last year with an exhibition to mark the occasion. Debuting at BOZAR, the Center for Fine Arts, Making a Difference / A Difference in Making offered an insightful survey of digitally fabricated art, design, and engineering projects. Working closely with the pioneering 3D-printing company, curator Marta Malé-Alemany astutely clarified the technology for a non-expert audience while raising questions about its deeper implications.
Following its debut in Brussels, Making a Difference / A Difference in Making looks to reprise its success in Germany. This month, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen brings the exhibition to a new audience, recognizing the broad relevance of 3D printing today. Set to open on 27 September, the show offers an opportunity to see the work of Patrick Jouin, Iris van Herpen, Jan Wertel, Gernot Oberfell, Daniel Widrig, and many more. Making a Difference / A Difference in Making will be on view at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen until 30 October, 2016.
