The 7th edition of Masterly – The Dutch in Milano, opens on April 18th at the historic Palazzo dei Giureconsulti. Curated by Nicole Uniquole, Masterly features over 80 Dutch designers, artists, artisans and agencies through installations, objects and artworks.

The Palazzo dei Giureconsulti is one of Milan’s most iconic buildings overlooking the Palazzo Mercanti, steps from the Duomo. It was commissioned by Giovanni Angelo Medici, and built in 1562, and is a stunning backdrop to the contemporary objects and installations on view. From interactive and experimental design to industrial manufacturing and limited editions, Masterly offers a unique opportunity to dive into the current design scene in Holland.

The work will be installed on four floors across the 4,000 square metres of this historic building, with each floor or area dedicated to a specific theme. On the ground floor will be projects and work dedicated to the theme of Technology, including advanced technologies and innovative materials. The basement area is focused on Craft, including ceramic sculptures, handmade carpets and other examples of artisanal work. On the first floor will be Collectible Design & Masterly Collaborations, where installations by some of the leading names in Dutch Design will be exhibiting, including Royal Delft (ceramics) REM Atelier (furniture related to sensory perception), Kiki van Eijk & Joost van Bleiswijk, and Nancy Torreele. In addition, there will be a special including exhibition on the future of living in the Sala Donzelli, with work by Petra Blaisse and her studio, Inside Outside and a project between Philips MyCreation and textile designer Aleksandra Gaca. The Second Floor is Inspirational Design, with immersive installations, including one by five recent graduates of the Wood & Furniture College (HMC) in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Dutch brand Fatboy will also have an installation with its comfy outdoor furniture, as a place to take a break and enjoy the space.

Masterly unveils a new brand identity this year as well, done by the Dutch design studio Opera Concept & Design, and includes new collaborations with artists and designers on the international scene. Tom Postma, a Dutch artist and set designer, will install bespoke floral arrangements in collaboration with Italian floral company Rattiflora and the entryway will feature an installation of thousands of colourful orchids by Orchids Netherlands.

On Wednesday, Lise Coirier will be in conversation with Kiki van Eijk & Joost van Bleiswijk about their installation “A Forest of Collision and Raku”, which is being presented in collaboration with Spazio Nobile Gallery.
