Mathieu Lehanneur at Carpenter’s Workshop London
Carpenter’s Workshop Gallery is pleased to present Spring, a solo exhibition of glass works by Mathieu Lehanneur, at its London location. Questioning the purely physical properties of solid, liquid, and gas, the works capture transition states frozen in time.
Operating within the framework of recognizable typologies — table, chandelier, lamp — the French designer looks to challenge the viewer’s perception of the materials at hand. From the laminated “Liquid” tables to the hand-blown glass globes of the “S.M.O.K.E.” lamps, the pieces in Spring collectively represent plasticity, fluidity, and mutability.
Moreover, Lehanneur once again demonstrates his curiosity and ability to realize his visionary objects through a deep understanding of production processes. For example, he consulted laboratory equipment manufacturers about the curved glass tubes of “Les Cordes” chandelier. Meanwhile, the tables were designed with 3D special-effects software used in the film industry.
One of the tables from the “Liquid Marble” series will be on view at the Victoria & Albert Museum on the occasion of London Design Festival. From 17–25 September, the hand-polished black marble table will be exhibited in the Norfolk House Music Room of the museum.
