Spotlighting the best young Belgian creatives have to offer, Nationa(a)l Expo//Store (8-17 May) returns for its best edition yet. Taking over multiple floors of a former office block, alongside Brussels’ imposing Palais de Justice – the annual initiative pulls-in the expert eye of ambassadors Cathy Pill, Linda van Waesberge, Doorzon and Julien de Smedt, to make a selection of design and fashion talents from both sides the country. Together with art work choosen by Pieter Vermeersch, the collective exhibtion identifies Belgian creativity as having no “inappropriate pride,” and in-turn no “cliche-oriented” expectations. The aptly name “live magazine” showcase operates as a boutique – everything from accessories, furniture and book-editions are on sale. With provocative posters plays-on Belgian trilingualism, the nine-day programme comprises everything from concerts, fashion shows to cooking lessons and last but not least, both grass-floor indoor and outdoor terraces – perfect for the first evenings hinting at warm weather.
