NOMAD, the roving collectible art and design fair launched in 2017 by Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte and Giorgio Pace, opens its Winter 2023 edition on February 23rd at the breathtaking Grace La Margna St. Moritz, a beautiful art nouveau-style building designed by Nicolaus Hartmann in 1906. For four days, NOMAD will take over several rooms in this historic building in the heart of St. Moritz, transforming this landmark space into a suite of contemporary gallery-like spaces where nature and art are on full display. There are around 15 participating galleries with as many special projects, and there will be a host of events, encounters and outings during the fair.

One of the highlights of this winter edition is a focus on sustainability and a new partnership with AD Italia. On February 25, NOMAD and AD will host the first Sustainable Design Summit in Engadine, with international creatives and industry leaders, including several designers from the recent AD 100 list. The panel discussion will discuss ideas and innovations to develop a more sustainable vision for the future. Included in the panel are Cyril Gutsch, CEO of Parley for the Oceans, Tsherin Sherpa, a Nepalese artist based between California and Kathmandu, Rossana Orlandi, Milan gallerist, Demet Müftüoglu, curator and creative director, and co-founder of Istanbul ’74, and Francesca Neri Antonello, Founder of FNA Concept.

In addition, during the 4-day event, AD will be producing and sharing digital content, including videos, interviews and stories about the artists, designers and events happening at NOMAD. This will be shared on their social media and web platforms in real time. Further partnerships with brands such as Poliform and Parley will take place during NOMAD and be presented in the May issue of AD Italia, which is dedicated to sustainability.

“Artists in Flux” is another new project launching at the winter edition of NOMAD. A curatorial project involving international artists and designers, “Artists in Flux” is part of a new collaboration with GUCCI. It is an initiative that reflects the spirit of NOMAD and which seeks to create a unique platform where art, design, and architecture can dialogue on a global scale. It will be a roving exhibition across multiple cities in 2023, the first group show includes Lola Montes Schnabel, Yves Scherer, and Tsherin Sherpa, who will be collaborating with Mt. Refuge, a design studio that merges ancient Buddhist traditions and craftsmanship with contemporary makers.

Conceptual artist and designer, Rolf Sachs, will also be exhibiting his work at NOMAD for the first time in a special project titled, “Alpine Suite,” which looks at the culture and landscapes of the Engadine region, where he grew up.

Galleries participating in NOMAD Include: Angela Weber Möbel, Zürich, Brun Fine Art, London, Elisabetta Cipriani Wearable Art, London, Golsa, Oslo, Gregor Staiger, Zürich, Milan, Larkin Erdmann, Zürich, Nilufar, Milan, Olivier Varenne – Art Moderne & Contemporain, Genève, Rossana Orlandi Gallery, Milan, Shåk Gallery, Brussels, Spazio Nobile, Brussels, The Gallery of Everything, London, Tristan Hoare Gallery, London, Volumnia, Piacenza, Von Bartha, Basel, Copenhagen
