Celebrating 20 years of developing projects and of engagement with Pro Materia, this 336-page edition of TLmag highlights the energy and daring of the designers who throw themselves body and soul into the challenge of hand and material. While not exhaustive, these pages reveal some of the hidden faces in the world of contemporary applied arts who are finding their way and a special place in the field of fine arts. With passion and perseverance as a shared foundation, gesture takes the rhythm of a movement that is both manual and conceptual, pushing the limits of the possible, in search of truth and authenticity. Two covers celebrate this double anniversary: that of Pro Materia and of the 10 years of this magazine. In the metaphor of kintsugi in the women that photographer Vincent Fournier delicately repairs with gold leaf, or the plunging cliffs rising above the sea on the island of Santorini, captured by artist Jörg Bräuer, faces and landscapes become a reflection of suspended time, of a long history and of a mythology between land and sea. From East to West, from the Orient to the Occident, the rituals and know-how of excellence are passed on from generation to generation, or even between master and disciple. What is left is to appreciate the mystery of these ‘wonderful things’, the nobility of a material that lives without artifice, a lost wax cast bronze or a glass paste, the direct carving of stone, marble or wood, liquid porcelain or a clay sculpture that takes shape in the fire, or a liquid crystalline that metamorphoses into blown glass in an instantaneous choreography. In these magical moments of transformation, the material is enhanced by the hand of the designer that reaches strongly and poetically into the sometimes-vanished heart and emotion of man.

Célébrant 20 ans de gestation de projets et d’engagement avec Pro Materia, cette édition de 336 p de TLmag met en exergue l’élan et à l’audace de créateurs qui s’engagent corps et âme dans le défi de la main et de la matière. Sans être exhaustives, ces pages révèlent quelques faces cachées de ce monde des arts appliqués contemporains qui se frayent un chemin et une place choisie dans le champ des beaux-arts. La passion et la persévérance comme socle commun, le geste prend le rythme d’un mouvement à la fois manuel et conceptuel, repoussant les limites du possible, en quête de vérité et d’authenticité. Deux couvertures pour fêter un double anniversaire, celui de Pro Materia et des dix années du magazine. La métaphore du kintsugi dans des femmes que le photographe Vincent Fournier répare délicatement à la feuille d’or ou la falaise plongeante au-dessus de la mer sur l’île de Santorin capturée par l’artiste Jörg Bräuer, visages et paysages deviennent le reflet d’un temps suspendu, d’une longue histoire et d’une mythologie entre terre et ciel. D’Est en Ouest, de l’Orient à l’Occident, les rituels et les savoir-faire d’excellence se perpétuent de génération en génération ou s’éveillent encore entre un maître et son disciple. Il reste à apprécier ce mystère des « belles choses », la noblesse d’une matière qui vit sans artifice, un bronze coulé à la cire perdue ou une pâte de verre, une taille directe dans la pierre, le marbre ou le bois, une coulée de porcelaine ou un modelage d’argile qui prend forme dans le feu ou un liquide cristallin qui se métamorphose en verre soufflé en l’espace d’une chorégraphie instantanée. Ces moments magiques de la transformation de la matière qui sont ainsi sublimés par la main du créateur atteignent avec force et poésie le cœur et l’émotion parfois enfuis des hommes.
