New York-based Samuel Amoia debuts a new series of lightweight jewel-like consoles and tables at DeLorenzo gallery.
Move over Dutch design, Americans are pulling up fast in the ever extrapolate practice of material experimentation. Manhattan-based Samuel Amoia unofficially opened NYCxDesign (New York Design Week) with a new series employing the iridescent potential of semi-precious stones cleverly interplayed with light geometric open-structures. Presented at Upper East Side DeLorenzo gallery, the new select collection of consoles, coffee tables and drums juxtaposes clean-lined surfaces with stone-coated base frames. Amoia uses the luminous qualities of malachite, lapis lazuli, pyrite, black tourmaline and red jasper – sourced in Brazil, Congo, India, Mexico. A sharp contrast to the heavy masculinity of his now celebrated Drums series, this new offering explores feminine forms rendered as light-weight jewels.
