Seen at PAD: Porcelain Bench and Stool/ Djim Berger for Galerie BSL
In the ‘Lightweight Porcelain’ collection, Djim Berger literally reinvents the material, to offer a version that is lighter and more resistant. This technical performance is obtained by mixing 1/3 of porcelain and 2/3 of polystyrene pearls: an exploit that professionals thought impossible to achieve, because of the high quantity of added materials. Once the piece is in the oven, the fire burns the polymer and reveals the new porcelain. Almost comparable to a bee hive or some intriguing mineral, it is also astonishingly stronger than standard porcelain, and therefore adapted to innovative designs even for furniture.
Galerie BSL produces ‘Lightweight Porcelain Stool’ in four exclusive colours (edition of 10 pieces + 2 AP in each colour) and ‘Lightweight Porcelain Bench’, that takes the design and research work even further (edition of 8 + 2 AP).
