The Future Perfect: Outlines
New York’s The Future Perfect invited For Reference principal Leilani Zahn to curate Outlines in their ‘secret’ office space, from New York Design Week (NYCxDesign) onwards. The pop-up domestic concept-gallery features new furniture lines by Mathew Hilton, Luca Nichetto, Neri & Hu and Studio Ilse for Portuguese brand De La Espada, mobiles by Karl Zahn, lighting and soft goods by For Reference.
Cast in warm hues of trend-setting pink, soft off-whites, shimmering metallics and pale woods, Outlines showcases a wide array of textures, shapes and materials. Staged in various domestic arrangements, the full De La Espada gamut of furniture pieces are contrasted by geometric-cum-haptic sculptures by New York-based talent Karl Zahn. Either hanging like layered wings or spinning on table tops, these plant-inspired works pitch light and reflections throughout the space. Stealing the show is a new cushion design by Leilani Zahn that anchor and drag blond human hair on upholstered surfaces. For Reference is also debuting a new lighting system inspired by architectural elements like archways and cloister vaults. Last but not least, the firm is presenting the Cyl and Pyr pillow series. Reinventing the classic futon, the new foldable and stackable design fits perfect in this temporary space.
