Following the thirtieth anniversary of the International Festival of Fashion and Photography in Hyères in April 2015, Villa Noailles hosts ‘Images de Mode – Fashion Images,’ the annual exhibition for fashion photography. The exhibition spotlights three categories of fashion photography from young photographers perpetuating young fashion designers to collectors choosing favourite frames from their collections.

Each year, a finalist photographer in the Hyères festival undertakes a commission to photograph the competing fashion designers at Villa Noailles at the International Festival of Fashion. These images will now be seen as part of Image de Mode exhibition in the same premises in which the annual fashion competition takes. In addition, the exhibition comprises fashion photography portfolios for magazines and fashion houses by photographers who have taken part in the competitions of the festival. Each of the competing photographers have chosen one of their favourite images for the exhibition.

Third part of the exhibit consists of fashion images as collectible items, and shows favourite frames of a selection of collectors. Beyond being published in magazines and catalogues, fashion photography becomes a collectible item when printed and exhibited. This medium and context opens fashion photography to a different temporality.

‘Images de Mode’ presents works from Grégoire Alexandre, Olivier Amsellem, Cécile Bortoletti, Cédric Buchet, Enrico Dagnino, Pierre Debusschere, Olivier Desarte, Charlie Engman, Bruno Fournier, Charles Fréger, Amira Fritz, Erwan Frotin, Nan Goldin, Gotscho, René Habermacher, Estelle Hanania, Horst, Ina Jang, Nick Knight, Duc Liao, Thomas Mailaender, Loan Nguyen, Pierre & Gilles, Man Ray, Vava Ribeiro, Jeff Riddle, Stefan Ruiz, Camille Vivier, Edward Steichen, Schaub Stierli, Joël Tettamanti, Marcus Tomlinson, Gérard Uferas, and Luciana Val and Franco Musso.

Simultaneously to this year’s photography exhibition, a call for entries for 2016 fashion competition and photography competitions will be open until 25 November 2015. •

Images de Mode runs at Villa Noailles, Hyères, France from 18 October 2015–17 January 2016.
