Crafting Connections
“Crafting Connections” is a group exhibition showcasing the intersection of design and craftsmanship presented by Atelier Ternier.
The Ghent-based studio Atelier Ternier, known for producing beautifully made furniture and interiors for clients such as MANIERA, Nathalie Deboel and Destroyers/Builders, curated a group exhibition that highlights the intersection between design and craftsmanship. This confluence of design and craft is something the Atelier Ternier knows well, having worked with designers, artists and architects for over 2-decades.
“Crafting Connection” features work by 12 independent European design studios and furniture makers and includes both new and existing pieces, including furniture, objects and small editions. The exhibition puts forward the importance of collective creativity, innovative design and self production. The presented works are diverse in usage (there are rugs, lamps, chairs, cabinets, and tables, as well as minimalist candlesticks and works that balance between sculpture and functional objects) and materiality (steel, aluminum, wood, textile, glass…). Atelier Ternier curated the show with the belief that the balance between form, material and construction conveys a poetic edge to functionality.
Shelving and cabinetry, stacking stools and carpets, table lamps or candlesticks here reflect an attention to detail, a sensitivity to material and colour and an interest in elevating the everyday experience with an object.
The artists and designers participating in the exhibition include: AETHER/MASS (BE), Jonas Van Put & Jaap, Bontekoe (BE), Bautier (BE), Cathérine Biasino (BE), Ertl Und Zull (DE), LABT by Atelier Ternier (BE), Marie Mees (BE), Paulineplusluis (BE), Stack by STUDIO MOTO (BE), UTIL (PT), Vormen (BE), and Willem Cole (BE).
“Crafting Connections” opened on August 30th and is on view through September 30th, 2024.
