Dove batte il cuore
“One needs a country, if only for the pleasure of leaving. A village means not being alone, knowing that in the people, in the plants, in the earth, there is something that belongs to you, that even when you are not there, it is always waiting for you.” Cesare Pavese, Paese
Spazio Nobile is delighted to announce an exceptional immersion into the world of Vera Vermeersch, a leading figure in Belgian textile art. She exclusively conceives and executes her own creations, drawing inspiration from her travels, the Italian landscape, and the intricate details of Old Masters such as Van Eyck.
Vera Vermeersch masters both the yarn and the art of composition. Her hand-tufted tapestries become collages, an emotional mapping of the panorama visible from her home, La Palude, overlooking the Piedmont valley. Each work is a layered, tactile interpretation of the landscape, where sketches are translated into small framed tapestries or bozzetti, sequences of watercolor drawings and contemplative visions.
Her artistic approach is meticulous and multi-layered, engaging in a continuous dialogue of interpretation and re-interpretation to elevate the subject into a composition of her own making. She carefully orchestrates every aspect—the color palette, the interweaving of threads, and the inherent genius of the material—to reveal the hidden poetry and virtuosity of her medium.
Vera Vermeersch’s works are celebrations of open-air life, far from the city’s frantic pace. Under the summer sky, days grow longer, the bucolic life calls for rest, and the soul relaxes beneath the tree of life. The smell of the sun, the distant voices (L’odore del sole, le voci lontane), evoked by the Italian poet and writer Cesare Pavese, capture the quintessence of her dialogue with nature. Through this poetic fusion, she translates the subtlety, rhythm, and lyricism of her inspiration into tapestries that are technically brilliant and profoundly evocative.
