Up Next: PAD London 2017
The Berkeley Square fair is hosting 68 art and design galleries this year, starting tomorrow. We picked our favourites, from minuscule jewellery to historical pieces of furniture
This year the PAD London is hosting 68 art galleries —12 among them newcomers— at Berkeley Square. The fair, now on its 11th edition, has established a reputation for its intriguing mix of the contemporary and the historic –in all sizes. Here are our favourites among the stands.
HELLA GOOD
Galerie Kreo is presenting Hella Jongerius’ limited-edition DragonFly coffee table, made of coloured glass and wood —there’s something about it that might make you want to pet it. Hint: it’s the legs.
Speaking of interesting table limbs, French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are presenting their new Y-122, a Y-legged metal, leather and black oak table.
UM PAÍS TROPICAL
Belgium’s Galerie Le Beau is hosting an exhibition focused on Mid-century Brazilian furniture, with Scandi-inspired pieces from the likes of Joaquim Tenreiro, Carlos Millan and Jorge Zalszupin.
And how about pieces that come from actual Scandinavia? Modernity is presenting items by Finn Juhl, Ib Kofod-Larsen and Poul Henningsen.
DIMORE THE MERRIER
The buzzy Italian-American designers of Dimore are showcasing their work at PAD for the first time, with a display of lighting pieces in a pink-hued stand. Their lamps will be joined by modernist works from Pierre Guariche, Angelo Lelli and Ico Parisi.
While we’re on the subject of lamps, do visit newcomer Alexandre Biaggi’s display, which includes a sculptural lamp designed by Alberto Giacometti.
A MARBLE OF DANCE
Here’s a nice backstory: the Fonteyn chair, a new piece by London duo Brooksbank & Collins on display at FUMI, was inspired by the relationship between dancers Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev —one is represented by verde Guatemala marble and the other by the chair’s burr oak veneer.
GUINNESS RECORDS
And now, on to the small wonders of the fair: from the antique pieces by French designer Suzanne Belperron at Siegelson to a collection by Claude Lalanne, Gavin Turk and Ron Arada at Louisa Guinness’ stand, there’s a wide array of items to see in the collectible jewellery category.
PAD THAI
Visit the PAD London Restaurant to see the luxury fabrics and wall coverings by Maison Pierre Frey. While French, the house’s designs are inspired by many global destinations.
PAD London is open at Berkeley Square from October 2-8. For a complete exhibitor list, visit their website.
