Incorporating humour, vivid colours and sharp lines into re-worked archetypes and original forms, Warsaw-based Gdansk-native Bashko Trybek has made his mark. “I think about new solutions,” he explains. “How to treat objects that have been done 1000 times with an iconographic expression.” Channeling a background that spans magazine art direction and architecture, the up-and-coming talent applies the same bold style to furniture design. “In my graphic design practice, I was missing a spatial aspect,” he explains. Anti Stress Chair – his most iconic design – depicts a kind of middle ground between the two. 128 balls – normally used for hand exercise – are inserted into a modernist-like metal mess chair structure. Since being released three years ago, to critical acclaim, Anti Stress Chair has been developed into multiple colour-coordinated iterations. Emblematic of Trybek’s graphic influences, Diamond Table depicts CMYK – the four primary print colours. The actual open structure diamond shaped legs directly reference the value of prismatic spectrums. Aware of his heritage, the designer developed Made of Coal vases and lamp-bases for Depot Basel out of composite graphite – a byproduct of coal extraction in Silesia – a southern Polish region known for its industrial strength. The shape of both reflects the terraced landscape left behind. Though Trybek has worked with many international brand – developing Climb shelving system with La Chance, his next step is to develop his own brand and set up shop in the nearby countryside.
