On 3 Feburary in Brussels, Belgium is Design revealed the recipients of the Belgian Designer of the Year 2015 label: Ghent-based duo Muller Van Severen (Fien Muller & Hannes Van Severen) as Designer of the Year – joining the ranks of 9 other Belgian Designers of the Year including  Jean-François d’Or, Natalie Dewez and Alain Gilles – to name but a few. Muller Van Severen is known for the perfect synergy of primary materials, function and poetry.

Belgium is Design is a curatorial initiative – forged by different Flemish, Walloon and Brussels-based cultural-cum-governmental organizations – dedicated to design and creative production in Belgium. Transcending linguistic and sociological differences, this platform taps into the wealth of talent each region offers. Belgium is Design has become a common label for all collective actions in Belgium but also abroad by various specific institutions such as the Wallonia-Brussels Design Mode or Design Vlaanderen.

This year, the platform will once again take Milan Design Week – 14-19 April 2015 – by storm. Belgian creativity will be given place of honour throughout the exhibition “Confronting the Master” in the Sala Napoleonica of the Accademia di Brera and on a collective stand at the Salone Satellite shared by six up-and-coming Belgian designers and design studios: Ateliers J&J, Rad product by Laurent Chabrier, Frédérique Ficheroulle, Pierre-Emmanuel Vandeputte, Kaju Design and Twodesigners.

The exhibition Confronting the Master will showcases the latest work from 10 Belgian Designers of the Year in the guise of showcasing the particularity of Belgian design. Along with Muller Van Severen, Alain Berteau (2006), Sylvain Willenz (2007), Stefan Schöning (2008), Nedda El-Asmar (2009), Bram Boo (2010), Nathalie Dewez (2011), Alain Gilles (2012), Jean-François d’Or (2013) and Marina Bautier (2014) are all know for their own signature and expertise.

Mounted by Bozar Design Curator and TLmag contributor Dieter Van Den Storm,  Confronting the Masters will run from 14-19 April.
