Carte Blanche by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance
It’s an image that exists only in vague memories of faded photographs: a house, vacated for reasons unknown, in which the furniture has been covered with white sheets. What does one expect to find underneath?
This is the concept of Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance‘s upcoming exhibition at the Mobilier National – Galerie des Gobelins. Here, “Carte Blanche” refers not only to the proverbial blank slate but also to the ghostly silhouettes that the young designer has created upon the invitation of Mobilier National. Each of article of furniture, handcrafted in oak, is partially clad with a composite shell that represents a kind of abstracted drapery. Clad in white leather, the technologically formed curves offer a strong contrast to the traditional joinery of the furnishings themselves.
“Carte Blanche” by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance’s was realized in collaboration with l’Atelier de Recherche et de Création (ARC). The exhibition opens alongside Tombée des Métier at Mobilier National – Galerie des Gobelins on 20 October 2016.
