“My interest was really creating a lamp with LED, which doesn’t look like a regular lamp.” With the new Coppélia lamp for Dutch design powerhouse Moooi, Helsinki-based, Japanese-born talent Arihiro Miyake did just that. 54 elegant candle-like LED bulbs grace the geometry of an open-structure metal frame. Twirling like a ballet dancer, the chandelier exudes the same sense of delicate elegance. The scale of various elements suggests the pristine precision of a maquette. However, the design is much more than a concept. Available in two sizes, Coppélia is dimmable and energy efficient. The pendant shines bright in small and large spaces alike. After a successful debut at Milan’s Fuorisalone last April, Moooi revealed the new Coppélia lamp to the US and Canadian markets last week.
