Eyes on Talents: Jacques-Aurelien Brun

Spanning Alpine peaks and linguistic borders, Paris-based platform Eyes on Talent ventures to top Italian and Swiss schools to spotlight the recent graduates who are quickly reshaping the design industry. Between the hallowed halls of the Basel Academy of Art and Design (FHNW), the École cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL), the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD), Polimoda in Florence, Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Milan and Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) in Venice, we find new fashion, graphic arts, photography, and product design concepts – some of which are in process and others of which are ready for market. Along the way, rich, process-based narratives meet sustainable solutions. 

Ecal visual communications graduate Jacques-Aurélien Brun employs the dematerialized craft of digital photography to create abstract storylines; collections that combine different typologies to express metaphoric quest for myths in the past and present. The photographer explores deeply ingrained themes such as the femme fatale, expectational journies, or various treatment of intimacy found in the everyday. Brun’s starting point is always a clue or fragment that sets him off on a process of interpretation and recontextualization. The After Anna series equates Homer’s Odyssey with the search for a fictional woman lost at sea; Ulysses’ desperate quest to reunite with Penelope. Captured, in part, as part of the road trip trough Sicily, Brun draws this series with the personal connotation of discovering his own roots.
