Fonctioncontemplation by Yade, Galerie Fatiha Selam
With the functionalist idea of form follows function, design has always continued to emancipate and integrate the values of sensitivity and emotion. During last month’s Desginer’s Days in Paris, Galerie Fatiha Selam and design duo Yade created a dialogue betweencontemporary design and art: Fonctioncontemplation, running till 11 July. This uncommon showcases provides a context that reveals the core function of any design, to meet a purpose. Presenting works by artists Jörg Gessner, Daniel Pontoreau, Stephen Schultz and guest Vladimir Skoda, Fatiha Selam worked with YADE to imagine a design with clean lines that could guide the contemplation and gaze of visitors. Each work exhibited answers a sitting or object inducing posture, exclusively inspired by the original.
Yade (Declarey and Solange Marina Yates) specialises in interior architecture and design, addressed two forms of these complementary disciplines; object, space and the constant attention to detail, to find a balance between aesthetics and function. The term of contemplation supports multiple senses and don’t only cover the material conditions of the eye but also the personal status that seeks preparation. The notion of contemplative reflection leads into many directions of philosophy, religion and mysticism. The term applied to design, employs a reductive spirit. This kind of design determines a attitude immediately in connection with the work concerned. Thus a rocking bench facing Stephen Schultz drawing corroborates with the imbalance in which the artist sets up his subject-matter. Yade shows the possibility of moving the object in space with constant attention to detail and the balance between aesthetics and functionality.
