Further From Function by Studio Khachatryan
Abstraction often paves the way for exploration and postulation. Further From Function by Mechelen-based designer Noro Khachatryan (Studio Khachatryan) is a series of highly-crafted ‘jewels’ that push furniture past the limits of accepted ergonomics. The new and adapted collection will be exhibited at Paris’ Atelier Richelieu – in partnership with Pierre Bergé & Associés – from 18 to 22 June. The works be sold at auction on 22 June. Aberrated just beyond standard proportions, a host of silver-grey marble and solid brass tables isolate the potency of different constructed elements. Such an apporach results in what can be described as essentialist forms. angular planes jut out from solid bases in complex compositions of minimalist volumes. The course of Khachatryan’s process – initially concerned with designing functional furniture – reveals how projects can mutate and take on new value over time.
