Halo By Matthew McCormick
Spotted at the hallowed Spazio Rossana Orlandi during this month’s Milan Design Week (4-9 April), Vancouver designer Matthew McCormick showcased his latest Halo collection; a new chandelier concept comprising various combinations of a minimalist yet geometric pendant lamp design. Circular tube bulbs are anchored by cubic nickel, copper, brass stems, that altogether hang from the ceiling like delicate jewels. McCormick took inspiration from the bubbles found in a glass of Italian Processo. Developed in various scales, the assembled constellations evoke a sense of Trompe-l’œil perspective.
Staged in front of a wall of Orlandi’s rectilinear archive boxes – in hues of rust brown – the HALO installation offered a striking juxtaposition. Revealing to what extent the various compositions can be agile, spanning space between the ceiling and floor, the showcase projected a new atmosphere in the space, a welcomed break from the clutter of Milan Design Week.
