Patricia Findlay Presents No Sex Miami by Atelier Biagetti
Exploring one of the more extreme potentialities of our increasingly virtual world, Milan-based Atelier Biagetti took Fuorisalone 2016 by storm. The No Sex collection of highly-crafted daybeds, chairs, mirrors and lamps were positioned in a ‘clinical’ scenography. The duo created a metaphoric juxtaposition between tangible artisanal mastery and the monotony of digital isolation. Each piece results from delicately transcendent expertise but also deeply satirical cultural references. Partnering with New York-based impresario Patricia Findlay, the duo will take their theatrical approach to the next level at this month’s Design Miami. As a Design Curio, No Sex will take the form of Freud’s Vienna bureau. Responding to a Degas Dancer painting – on loan from the Findlay collection – a ‘humanistic’ wallpaper with drive Atelier Biagetti’s point home. Highlighting this second iteration will be a choreographed performance by Elena and Giulia Sella of DesignByGemini. The associations of sex, virtual abstinence, sublation, psychology, production techniques, material properties and historical evocation are evident as these objects become forms of speculative; tool from which to critique our society.
