The Nude brand is part of Şişecam – a Turkish-based industrial group operating in 13 countries, in the fields of flat glass, glassware, glass packaging production. Şişecam exports half its products to 150 countries. Targeting to stand among the top three global glass manufacturers by 2020, the industrial group is expanding its capacity, value-added product portfolio and market share through new investments such as the Nude glass collection – contributing to our ever-changing living habits and environments.

Lise Coirier: How does being part of Şişecam group impact the strategy of your Denizli-based glass factory? Emre Bozbeyli: Şişecam is a large holding group, consiting of many glass manufacturing companies. We have the ability to employ various glass production processes with strong technological knowledge. Therefore, this dynamism creates a powerful synergy. Within the tableware sector, handmade production and skill-based tools are the driving forces behind our designs. Many creative and unique ideas start with hand blown processes. LC: Implemented in Denizli, your handmade glass manufacturer is actively developing products for its own label and for other global brands. Can you describe some of the most interesting recent collaborations – such as Kosta Boda, Hay, Holmegaard and Rosenthal. EB: As you just stated, almost all world renowned glass- and design-related companies work or have worked with Denizli Cam. Our glass composition – a specific brightness and clarity –is hard to beat. Our skill-set and craftsmanship is unparalleled. LC: What is your vision of traditional handmade glass’s future versus the research and development of new forms for domestic, environmental and architectural applications? EB: Like in many sectors, glass production has its own traditions and values. But at the same time, technological research allow us to seek-out better methods. Our goal is to keep the best parts of tradition – without losing its essence – while conceiving and investing in the future. LC: The design process is much more valued since Şişecam launched the first Nude collection. Ron Arad’s Signature Collection for Nude includes iconic pieces such as the DecanteRing, Red or White and Wine Party – all masterfully hand crafted in lead free crystal. Since the beginning of 2014, Nude has been commercially promoted in Turkey and Europe, at majors fairs such as Ambiente. How does this collection impact your consumer market? EB: Nude is not only a collection but a philosophical approach to designed tableware. Nude is style, function, colour and above, simple. It defines modern homes and contemporary lifestyles. Therefore, in a short time, it will catch the attention of all consumers. LC: Şişecam aim to expanding the Nude glass collection on a global level without restoring to cliché references. As already mentioned, you have developed a range of handmade glass products with the support of Yair Haidu – including designers such as Ron Arad, Pentagon Design, Rony Plesl, Alejandro Ruiz, Alev Ebuzziya Siesbye, Erdem Akan, Ali Bakova, Koray Ozgen. What other directions and themes would you like to explore, whilr building up Nude as one of the leading international brand – challenging glass production at different scales? EB: We have imagined a lifestyle and design the objects around that. The designers chosen to contribute – sharing the same spirit – completing this concept. A creative master like Ron Arad definetely represents Nude’s ambition. “For me design is to do something that didn’t exist before,” Arad as often explained. Creating Nude environment, we will continue to work with new masters.
