TLmag: How does the landscape inspire and influence your work?
Piet Stockmans: Every defined space is a landscape. Even the artist’s studio is a landscape full of recognizable and meaningful objects.

Can you describe the process of making your handmade porcelain pieces ‘wilde strippen anthracite’ shown in Land/Scapes?
My work is made through the repetition of actions, determined by the material and delimited by the space in which the work is arranged which gives form and content to my work.

Historically, the landscape has been an important influence of many artists, do you feel a connection with them?
We are all influenced by what we have seen and know. But, for me what is essential is the feeling of infinity and a natural limit.

How do you understand your work as part of Spazio Nobile’s Land/Scapes and as part of your creative practice as a whole?
My work always enters into a relationship with the space it is in as well as everything that is in that space.

Piet Stockmans will be at Spazio Nobile to present and sign his book ‘No China’ on December 13 from 7-9 pm with appetizers
