Open as of yesterday, 14 June, Potato Head Hong Kong also marks the completion of Sou Fujimoto‘s first project in the global city. The newly established retail/restaurant space represents the second international outpost of the Balinese beach club (the first being in Singapore). The Japanese architect’s signature lattice structure façade is alludes to the traditional window frames of Hong Kong, while the interior is characterized by nods to Indonesian design. Specifically, the hand-painted wall panels from Toraja and the vernacular furniture — mixed with mid-century modern — impart a sense of contemporary Indonesian culture.

A secluded music room reveals yet another facet of the architectural experience, in keeping with Potato Head’s reputation as a destination for audiophiles, among its broad clientele of creative professionals. At a total of 750 square meters, the diverse program fits squarely in Hong Kong’s Sai Ying Pun neighborhood. Check out ptthead.com for more information.
