Paris-based Galerie Maria Wettergren mounts the first Gjertrud Hals solo show entitled Ultima. The Norwegian artist has pioneered textiles influenced by northern landscapes. Hals works by weaving different materials including iron wire and explores themes of time, past and present. Veritable poetic microcosm, her “paintings” capture life and its traces as large cobwebs. She seems to seek the thread that tie cultures together, but also the culture with nature. Her most recognised “vases” are ample and delicate, knitted cotton. These containers follow age-old form. With this exhibition, Hals pushes the  limits of ambivalence.

Ultima run from 25 September to 19 December 2015 at Galerie Maria Wettergren.
