Veronique Branquinho: Tales of a Dark Forest
Veronique Branquinho’s dark and poetic Pre-Fall collection for 2016–17 will be followed by the Fall-Winter collection shown in Paris on 7 March 2016.
Fashion designer Veronique Branquinho’s pre-collection for fall and winter 2016–17 plays with elements of a dark and romantic winter forest, in which a woman walks between mysterious black trees.
Accordingly, the collection consists of muted, dark shades with camel and red highlights. The ivory coats and dresses as well as voluminous coats in straightforward shapes are inspired by warm woollen blankets, and finished with velvet ribbons reminiscent of traditional blankets.
Feminine, pleated long dresses with pin-tucks and lace bring a wind of yesterday to the collection, and create a contrast to the heavy blanket coats. The dark atmosphere of the collection is softened by playful prints with stylized Siamese cats on silks and pleated garments, and the dresses and blouses play between control and looseness, severeness and easiness. The pre-fall collection is complemented with high-heeled leather boots and mid-heel moccasins.
Antwerp-based Veronique Branquinho, who is known for her poetic and feminine collections, studied fashion design at Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, and graduated in 1995. She has shown her eponymous collection in Paris since 1997. Today, the label also includes a men’s collection and a shoe collection. •
