Swarovski Designers of the Future Award at Design Miami/ Basel
Now in its second edition, the Swarovski Designers of the Future Award offered a platform for three young design studios to exhibit their work at Design Miami/ Basel.
Among the many highlights of Design Miami/ Basel this year, three young design studios — Anjali Srinivasan, Studio Brynjar & Veronika, and Yuri Suzuki — earned a unique opportunity to present their work. For the second consecutive year, the Swarovski Designers of the Future Award offered a platform for the up-and-comers to exhibit at the fair. From an interactive rolling wave to a crystalline musical instrument, the large-scale installations draw on the storied brand’s heritage by interpreting the notion of “betterment” in the creative process.
Dubai-based glass artist Anjai Srinivasan’s “Unda” responds to gestures thanks to Swarovski Touch Crystals, which react through illumination. With “Currents“, Berlin’s Studio Brynjar & Veronika translate natural phenomena of reflection, refraction, and dispersion in three different forms. And Yuri Suzuki, who hails from Japan and is currently based in London, has developed “Sharevari“, a mechanical crystallophone, for which he has composed original music.
The Swarovski Designers of the Future Award is the latest iteration of the crystal company’s ongoing support of design talent at Design Miami/ Basel, which dates back to 2006. Following a visit to Wattens, Austria, in December 2015, this year’s laureates were announced at Maison & Objet in January. Their final projects were presented at the 11th edition of Design Miami/ Basel, from 14–19 June, 2016.
